FAQ
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required, other than if you are coming for ACC, you need to already have lodged an ACC claim. If you have been working with a practitioner already, your previous tests and information will be helpful.
What do I wear?
Wear what you like, but be mindful we often need to access your limbs and torso.
Will it hurt?
The needles we use are single use sterile and very fine, nothing like a standard injection needle. You will often feel the insertion as a mild or sharp sensation, then sometimes you may experience a heavy feeling as the Qi is activated.
Can I work after a treatment?
Yes, some people feel a little tired or some feel energised. Ideally you will have eaten pre treatment so are not starving or light headed at the end.
Can you provide pre and post acupuncture off site for embryo transfers in the fertility clinics?
Previously this was an option, but Covid changed the rules on this option and we currently are unable to offer this service .
Is Acupuncture covered by ACC?
Yes, if the treatment is specifically for your injury and your have a current ACC claim that has been accepted. Recent rules with ACC have changed only allowing a 3 month treatment window. So you ACC may still be valid with your other treatment providers, but expired for Acupuncture .
Can I fill out an ACC form with you?
No, whilst we can treat your ACC injury, your GP, Physiotherapist, Osteopath or Chiropractor needs to have filled out your initial ACC claim.
Is there parking close by?
Yes. We have multiple parks directly in front of the clinic or free parking on the road.
How many treatments will I need?
Your treatment requirement will depend on why you are coming. Weekly treatments initially is a basic requirement to see improvements.
For fertility – when should I start having acupuncture?
For fertility issues, especially if in conjunction with assisted reproductive treatments if is great if you can come in sooner rather than later. It may be just to get you started on an appropriate pre-conceptual plan. The pre-conceptual period is 3 months, so ideally we would see you 3 months prior on planning to conceive.
Is acupuncture recommended whilst pregnant?
Absolutely, but only by an experienced practitioner – which we are!
When should I come if my baby is breech?
32-34 weeks is the ideal time to optimise chances of the baby turning.
When should I start coming when pregnant?
This depends on how everything is going. If you have a history of miscarriages, we would like to see you in your first trimester. If you develop any discomforts , then come in as they present. For pre birth preparation, come at 36-37 weeks. If you are overdue- come as soon as you can.
